LENSMap

A lens calibration and measurement system developed for stop-motion cinematography and hybrid visual effects workflows.

LENSMap explores practical methods for documenting real-world lens behavior through repeatable measurement and calibration workflows. The project combines image analysis, EXIF metadata extraction, focus-distance mapping, and production measurement into a unified calibration framework.

In stop-motion and miniature cinematography, even small variations in focal length, focus breathing, distortion, or alignment can significantly affect multi-pass integration and camera matching. LENSMap is designed to help document and visualize those behaviors in a practical production environment.

Development areas include:

  • Effective focal length mapping
  • Focus breathing analysis
  • EXIF extraction workflows
  • Calibration chart systems
  • Lens profile generation
  • Structured lens databases
  • Production reporting tools

LENSMap is being developed as both a practical production toolset and an educational framework for understanding how real lenses behave in physical production environments.

Development is ongoing and the software is still considered experimental and in active progress.
