LIMNMEDIA - Finding Center

This set of images highlights a small but essential step: using a center punch to mark the location for a pilot hole.

Before drilling, the center punch creates a small indentation at the exact point where the hole should begin. This gives the drill bit a place to seat, preventing it from wandering across the surface—especially on metal.

The process is simple:

  • Measure and mark the location

  • Use a center punch to create a starting point

  • Drill a pilot hole from that reference

Without this step, it’s easy for the drill bit to drift off the mark, especially when working with harder materials or small hole sizes.

It’s a small action, but it makes a big difference in accuracy. As the build progresses and more components rely on alignment, these details start to matter more and more.
